Sally Clark

A thread that has been consistently running through Sally’s long and successful career has been her ability to invest in and develop people. Since retiring from Barclays Bank in February 2019, Sally has taken time to reflect and put together a ‘plural’ existence, and a key element of this is to mentor and support the next generation of leaders. Sally is a qualified coach.

Sally is best known in the Internal Audit industry globally, but she is also recognised as an outstanding advocate for women across many walks of life, and specifically in executive and board roles across the financial services industry. She is a prominent supporter of the gender diversity network.

Professional and NED roles

Sally served as a Director and Deputy President of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors and is commencing her NED career. She is also the Managing Director of her own consulting company.


Sally became Chief Internal Auditor in 2014 and took charge of the 650 strong global team. During her tenure Sally developed a reputation for innovation and pushing the boundaries to ensure that the function was at the cutting edge of internal auditing techniques. Sally sponsored the Global Wellbeing programme for Barclays, together with the Early Careers network. 

 Whilst at Barclays she mentored a number of executives and high potential individuals, both at Barclays in the in the industry.


Prior to Barclays Sally spent 27 years in either risk management or internal audit roles.
